Recharge During A Road Trip

Access to sleeping quarters inside of your van may limit your need to drive alternate routes in search of a hotel. If you and your partner share the driving responsibilities during each trip, having a semi-private area will allow each of you to recharge after a heavy driving stint. Use a do-it-yourself van conversion kit to assist you with performing the interior upgrade.

Assess Your Van's Interior

A makeshift sleeping area may consist of a wooden or a metal frame that is suspended along one interior wall in your van. Some sleeping areas are designed to be added to a vehicle's floor. Decide if you would like to add a loft-style bed or a separate mattress that rests directly upon the floorboard. Use a van conversion kit that correlates to the vehicle model that you own.

You may be advised to purchase some specific materials to perform the upgrade, but you can always substitute mattress types if you are fond of a particular model or would like your new bedding area to be slightly smaller or larger than what the plans outline.

Be aware that your interior cargo space will be somewhat limited once you have the bedding area installed. If you currently use the interior to store extra automotive parts, clothing, and cooking gear, consider adding your bedding area along one side of the interior chamber. This will allow you to keep the other items in one designated area. Built-in storage can assist with keeping the vehicle's interior orderly.

Contemplate Future Upgrades And Add Privacy Details

Even if your adventures currently involve eating at restaurants or using restroom facilities at public locations, your needs or preferences may change in the future. Do not choose a sleeping area style that will permanently alter your van's interior or prevent you from making additional upgrades. Your conversion kit will include an outline of how the inside of your van will look once the project is complete.

If you choose a bed style that is on the smaller side, you will have ample room for a kitchen, dining area, or small restroom, if you decide that these upgrades will make your life easier. In addition, choose some privacy features for your new sleeping quarters. Use a dark-colored curtain to separate the bed from the front of the van. Purchase eye masks and audio recordings that will help you and your partner fall asleep quickly.
