Material

Truck caps are usually made out of aluminum or fiberglass. Aluminum is the lighter choice, so it won't affect your gas mileage as much as fiberglass. However, aluminum can dent easily and it may not look as attractive on your truck.

Fiberglass is a popular option if mileage isn't your main concern. These come in a variety of colors and add to the appeal of your truck. Plus, fiberglass is durable and won't dent, although fiberglass can crack under the right circumstances. Fiberglass is also a more expensive option when it comes to the price of truck caps.

Windows

You may not want any windows in your cap if you want to keep what you haul secret. A cap without windows makes your tools more secure since no one can peek through the glass and see them. If you plan to use your cap as a camper, then you may prefer windows so you can have some air circulation when you sleep or need refuge from the rain.

Windows can also allow access from the sides of your truck, and that makes it easier to reach in and grab something without having to crawl inside the cap.

Height
